Conference on Global Threats to the Rule of Law

The University of Zurich was delighted to invite academics and legal practitioners to engage in an interdisciplinary discussion on global threats to the rule of law. The workshop was structured into three parts over a two-day period from the 4 - 5 of June 2026. In the first part, the speakers discussed conceptualising the rule of law. This was followed by lectures examining modern threats to the rule of law and democratic backsliding. Finally, the conference discussed potential responses to democratic backsliding.
